Liverpool could be set to lose rising star Sergi Canos this summer, with Championship clubs circling for the youngster.

According to reports, including local website Get Reading, the young Spanish midfielder has become a target for manager Brian McDermott.

The Reading boss was impressed with Canos’ performances against the Royals, ink using a wonder-goal scored at the Madejski in December and is ready to pounce for the young talent.

With the Royals losing players like Hal Robson-Kanu and loanee’s including Lucas Piazon, Ola John, and Matej Vydra, McDermott will be looking to add a few attacking reinforcements to his squad this summer.

Canos is currently in a contract dispute with parent club Liverpool having rejected a new £3k a week deal to stay in Merseyside. This means the player only has 12 months remaining on his deal and with no sign of any further contract talks, Liverpool may want to sell up before losing him on a free.

The 19-year old is said to have a £1million price tag and is attracting a lot of interest in his signature, including clubs like the aforementioned Reading plus Fulham and Rangers, along with Spanish sides Eibar and Sporting Gijon.

Another club linked with the attacking midfielder is current loan club Brentford, who are said to be very keen on extending Canos’ stay at the club, especially if this includes a permanent move.

The talented midfielder made 38 appearances for the Bees this season and contributed 7 goals.

Canos joined Liverpool in 2013 from the amazing Barcelona academy famed with creating players like Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara, and Andres Iniesta.

It still remains to be seen if Canos is willing to step down a league for regular football or if he will hope that fresh contract talks will bring an agreement at Liverpool.
