Betis step up chase for Villa’s Gil
Real Betis look set to approach Aston Villa for Spanish starlet Carles Gil, according to Football Espana.
The Liga BBVA side is said to be interested in the Villa star and is hoping to secure his signature before other clubs register there interested in him.
Gil spent most of the last season outside of the Villa squad and has struggled to feature for the club since signing from Valencia in a £3.2million deal in January 2015.
The 23-year old was not liked by former Villa manager Remi Garde and is said to be very apprehensive about staying at the recently relegated club, with a new manager set to take over.
The new manager is, of course, Roberto Di Matteo, who is a big fan of players who have flair and skill, something Gil has bags of.
Betis manager Benito Vellamaron, with Sporting Director Miguel Torrecina allowing the Spanish manager to get his man, after attempting to sign Gil at his previous club Celta.
Betis aren’t the only club eyeing the talented playmaker, with Sevilla, Deportivo, and Celta all monitoring the players situation.
Apparently, Betis are currently looking to land Gil on a loan deal initially, with the option to purchase the star should his move be successful.
However, Villa will be looking to bring in new players this summer and allowing players to leave permanently will impact their FFP status, with the Championships rules being a lot more stringent that the Premiership rules.
Club’s are not allowed to lose over £15million over a 3 year period, meaning Villa will have to allow players to leave if they are to make big moves for players to assist in their promotion.
It is still unknown whether Di Matteo will allow Gil leave, but the talent the player possesses could be a real benefit to the club if he does decide to stay and honour his contract, which expires in 2019.
