Leeds United confirm Steve Evans’ departure
Leeds United have parted company with head coach Steve Evans, the club’s site can confirm.
Evans was highly expected to leave his role at the Yorkshire club after they began to approach new managers to fill his role at the end of the season.
The Scot has been at the club seven months and has reasonably turned the club around during that time, having seen the club go from a relegation threatened side to a 13th placed finish.
Evans, along with assistant Paul Raynor have now been released from their roles after their rolling contract was set to expire and with the club not expecting to renew them.
The signs became evidently clear when Leeds owner Massimo Cellino held preliminary talks with other managers about the role, to no success.
Leeds have now been knocked back by both Darrell Clarke and Karl Robinson in the past week, with the club’s reputation being mocked at the level of manager they are now failing to attract.
Evans will now head into summer a coveted man, with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Bolton linked with former Rotherham United manager.
Although his stint may have been short, Steve has been one of the most successful managers at Leeds United and many fans will be sad to see him leave.
Evans oversaw a somewhat revival of the attacking spirit and big win mentality that Leeds fans have been pleading for over the years and now, because of their owner’s indecisiveness, that time has ended.
